Dr. Shah learned how difficult it can be to navigate through the healthcare system when she had illness with fatigue, joint and muscle pains and digestive symptoms. Any food that she consumed caused a negative reaction. She was given multiple diagnoses and treatments without any response. She did not stop searching, and she found what she believes to be the best way to heal. Functional medicine seeks to identify and address the root cause of disease and views the body as an integrated system, not just collection of independent organ systems by different specialties.
She understands by her personal experience what struggle it is to go through daily activity, not being able to do what you love to do and be told there is nothing wrong with you. Nothing can be done come back when it gets worse.
Helping people is her passion, she looks at your entire life health history as interconnected like a web, everything is clue to your present state of health and illness.
With each patient that she sees. she seeks to find common link, root cause of illness, and not simply treat the symptoms. She believes in engaging both patient and herself in a therapeutic partnership. By shifting the traditional disease centered focus of medical practice to a more patient centered approach, and addressing whole person and not just an isolated set of symptoms. She spends time with her patients, listening to their story and looking at genetics, environment and, lifestyle factors and their influence in the long-term health and complex chronic disease. She believes in looking at the person who happened to have illness rather than what illness that person has.
Many times she says “difference between conventional medicine and functional medicine is in details. In practice of medicine, healing depends not only doing the right thing, but doing the right thing in the right order at the right time.”
She believes approaching any illness with functional medicine principles helps her to know where to start, which layer to peel away first and in what manner.
She does not practice protocol based linear medicine. It is tailored for individual’s needs and often it changes as treatment and plan goes forwards . She is committed to revive the power of healing relationship between doctor and patient. She believes people with illness need Comprehensive Care that empowers them. Through education and personalized science based recovery plan, she likes to inspire and help individuals with any chronic illness regain their health and achieve highest potential of vitality and health.
